Why should I pipe my flue?

What is flue lining?

Chimney flue lining is a technique that involves inserting a tube into the existing flue to protect it, improve its operation or bring it up to standard. This makes maintenance much easier, especially during the mandatory annual chimney sweeping operation. The tube will line the flue from the base of your installation to its outlet.

Today, flue lining is mandatory when you renovate your home (if a flue pipe is already in place). In addition to providing security for your home, it also offers great installation flexibility, allowing you to imagine your future heating appliance. You can opt for rigid or flexible tubing, depending on the constraints of your home.

When should a chimney flue be lined?

During renovation work, it\'s not uncommon to find poorly sealed flues, which can lead to leaks of toxic gases such as carbon monoxide. In such cases, a complete lining of the system is essential to avoid any danger of poisoning. This will prevent leaks and considerably extend the life of your chimney.

The intense temperatures produced in your chimney\'s firebox by combustion can lead to the accumulation of tarry soot known as bistre, which is often the cause of devastating chimney fires. The installation of a stainless steel chimney liner will considerably reduce the build-up of these substances and make your installation much safer.

What are the advantages of lining chimney flues?

Formerly masonry, chimney flues built in this way suffer from rapid and precipitous deterioration, due in particular to the extreme conditions to which they are subjected during combustion. The fumes produced during heating are acidic and corrode your installation. By lining your flue, you protect your pipes and completely eliminate the risks associated with corrosion.

Last but not least, in addition to the safety benefits of stainless steel flues, they are also responsible for a clear improvement in your chimney\'s performance. In fact, a well-insulated chimney flue will provide you with much hotter fumes that won\'t cool down when extracted. All the conditions are therefore in place for a better draught, with significantly improved heating performance.
